Hello again everyone! For this week, I want you to do a couple of things as a group (based on the groupings you submitted last Tuesday).
1. First of all, I suggest you create an e-mail account for your group. If you decide not to, please make sure that you use one of your member's e-mail address as listed in our class directory.
2. Post a group comment here answering the question: WHAT IS THE CONCEPT OF "MEDIAMORPHOSIS"? Limit your answer to a maximum of 100 words. As usual, please cite your source/s. Deadline is 12 midnight Friday.
3. Prepare a group written report discussing the following:
a) What is blogging?
b) A brief history of blogging
c) Cite a Philippine blog site that your group likes and discuss its merits
d) Can blogging be considered as a "new journalism?" Why or why not?
This assignment is NOT for posting here. Submit a hard copy/printed copy of the report on Tuesday, July 3, during class hours. Limit your report to a maximum of 8 pages, double-spaced, 10-12 sized font. Again, cite your sources. And don't forget to indicate your group name.
See you all on Tuesday at the MPH. We'll have a good time watching a movie :-) (Attendance will be checked)

Media morphosis is a unified way of thinking about the technological evolution of communication. We will see that the new media do not arise spontaneously and independently. The new media will emerge gradually from the metamorphosis, which is defined to be a biological process of development.
All forms of communication are tightly woven into the fabric of the human communication system and cannot exist independently from one another in our culture. As each new form emerges and develops, it influences, over time and to varying degrees, the development of every other existing form. Coevolution and coexistence, rather than sequential evolution and replacement, have been the norm.
Existing forms of media evolve when a new form enters, and each form is operating in an ecosystem where its evolution is dependent on the evolution of those around it. History indicates that the old and the new will coexist, rather than the old one dying. For example, AM radio coevolved with television in the post World War II era, and then again when FM came onto the scene to take most of the music audience.

Answer to the question:
Media morphosis means media change and there are six principles behind this concept.
1) CO-EVOLUTION and CO-EXISTENCE
-All media forms exist, evolve together, in expanding, complex, adaptive system. Old forms influence new ones.
2) METAMORPHOSIS
-New media emerge gradually from older forms.
3)PROPAGATION
-Emerging media forms retain and spread dominant traits from earlier ones.
4) SURVIVAL
-Older forms adapt and evolve
to survive.
5) OPPORTUNITY and NEED
-New media don't succeed
because they’re cool. There
must be market opportunity,
plus motivating social, political, economic or other reasons.
6) DELAYED ADOPTION
-New technologies always take longer than expected to attain commercial success.

THE ONE group a.k.a. THE PLAYMATES
MEDIAMORPHOSIS is coined by the Roger Fidler. It refers to the transformation of media. Evolution of media is brought about by social, cultural, political, and economical circumstances. It is a response to the complex interplay of social and technological innovations, perceived needs and competitive and political issues.
The changing global media is signified by the coexistence and co evolution of media forms, gradual metamorphosis of new media forms from old ones and the challenges brought about by the adoption of new media.
Fidler elaborated in his book 'Mediamorphosis: Understanding New Media' that "humanity has gone through three great mediamorphoses": emergence of written language, spoken language, and digital language.
The emergence of digital language happened on the same way written and spoken language came about including its significance on human communication. The three domains of human communication are: interpersonal (one-to-one communication); broadcast (refers to the level of conveyance ); and document (refers to the radio and television news).
These domains fit in on the concept of Interactive Media.
The concept of mediamorphosis, therefore, is concerned with the discernible occurrence that we will see a continuing evolution within these domains.
According to Fidler, "new forms do not emerge spontaneously; they are actually evolving from older forms."
Media forms change as time changes. These changes usually involve the merging of the existing media forms.

RAVMONES GROUP
WHAT IS THE CONCEPT OF MEDIAMORPHOSIS?
Mediamorphosis is a concept that involves media undergoing metamorphosis. It is the convergence of a medium consists of a process of adaptation, integration and subsequent change. Media metamorphosis is a series of convergences among the diverse media, resulting in a product that meets the collective needs of the all of the contributing media. The Internet is the catalyst for, as well as an element within, this process. This new product will be the preferred medium. A product of media metamorphosis. Print and broadcast media is integrated to the new medium, the internet. Thus, media morphed to another “media”.

I just want to commend everyone for not waiting until the final hours of the deadline to comply with this assignment. I also hope this exercise has introduced everyone by now on the mechanics of our online postings.
Have a happy weekend. And again, see you all on Tuesday.
The term MediaMorphosis was NOT invented by Roger Fidler, but by myself, Timothy Gilchrist, in 1992, when I started my company of the same name. There was a great convergence of several technologies which I foresaw, having worked in television, starting with early computer systems and the introduction of the World Wide Web.
We had one of the first 250,000 sites on the web, which I hand coded in a word editor, since nothing else existed. Roger Fidler helped define the word and popularized it in his book, but the idea had been around before that, as my company and web site attest.
Many people have tried to monopolize on the name and the concept, but I created it to show my clients that we understood the convergence of multiple technologies and would provide solutions for them based on emerging developments and innovations. For additional info, you can go to the www.mediamorphosis.com web site.
